Scrabble® is a timeless word game that rewards a rich vocabulary, strategic thinking, and careful planning. What is the game about?
The objective of the game is to score as many points as possible by forming words on the board. Words are created using letter tiles with different point values and are placed on the board in a crossword-like manner. Success depends not only on correct spelling but also on smart use of premium squares that multiply letter or word scores.
Game setup
Each player draws 7 letter tiles from the cloth bag and places them on their rack so they are hidden from the other players. The board is placed in the center of the table, and the remaining tiles form a draw pool.
Gameplay
- Players take turns in clockwise order.
- On a turn, a player places at least one word on the board using tiles from their rack.
- The first word must pass through the center square of the board.
- Each new word must connect to existing letters on the board and form valid words.
- After placing a word, the player scores points for all letters used, including any bonuses from special squares (such as double or triple letter or word scores).
- The player then draws tiles from the bag to refill their rack to 7 tiles.
The game ends when all tiles have been drawn and one player uses their last tile, or when no player can make a legal move. At the end of the game, points for unused tiles are deducted, and the player with the highest total score wins.
